Trading Standards

Are you being ripped-off? Consistently short pints? Top-up refused? Complete lack of price list on display? Other dodgy goings-on? If so, read on ……….

If you are unhappy about the service you get in a pub, off-licence, supermarket etc. you will probably shrug, accept it and resolve not to go there again. If you encounter, for example, short measure, misleading listing of products, lack of a price list, etc. you really should act positively.

Most pubs are run by hard-working devoted publicans whose aim is always to please the customer and to provide good service. However, from time to time you may come across some who are less than scrupulous and who bend the law to to the benefit of their pockets and the detriment of yours.

For example, what do you do if you receive a short pint? The first rule is to remain polite and ask for a top-up. The honest publican will not refuse, but what if they do?

And what do you do if you are overcharged, or you suspect something wrong with the beer – on a rare occurrence beer may have been returned to the cask, or perhaps has otherwise been tampered with. Or what if the pub advertises cask ales, but only serves keg beers?

If you receive no satisfaction from the publican then you may wish to report the matter to the Trading Standards.

Trading Standards have a role to protect consumers from errors or frauds concerned with quality, description or price of goods, services or facilities and to detect and rectify unfair advertising practices.
