[extract from minutes of Wigan CAMRA Branch meeting on 14th August 2019]
Since taking on the role as Clubs Officer, I have visited Hindley Masonic Club to give general advice on the proposals to refurbish the bar, which is now underway. We also discussed the criteria for COTY award, the supply of Swiggin in Wiggin, the Wigan Ale Map, which has been supplied by Jo along with a dispenser. The supply of CAMRA membership forms will also be arranged once the bar reopens in September. I have taken some photographs of the old bar and intend to return when the new refurbished bar opens, this could possibly be a “before and after” article for Swiggin in Wiggin.
I have also visited Newtown Working Man’s Club, they do not currently serve real ale. I have disused the potential benefits of serving real ale and the support CAMRA could provide with the Club Secretary. He will raise that at the next club committee meeting and establish if the proposal to sell real ale can be moved forward.
On the recommendation of Barry Seale I intend to visit St James Social Club in Orrell with a view to building a mutually beneficial relationship.
I would be grateful to Wigan CAMRA members for recommendation of clubs they are familiar with who we could build a relationship with. It would be good to have more than one contender for the 2020 COTY award.
