Social Trip : Leeds, Oswestry, Harrogate

LEEDS, Saturday 5th May 2018 (Festival Thank You Trip)

As usual, the first trip of the year also doubles-up as a ‘thank you’ trip for volunteers at Wigan CAMRA Beer Festival in March. However, due to unprecedented take-up of places on this trip by festival volunteers, it is very likely that there will be no places left to offer non-volunteers.

We are currently in the process of confirming places with festival volunteers and just a few places may result from this exercise. As such, we’ll be operating a ‘waiting list’ for places on this trip. If you are interested about being on this ‘waiting list’ please e-mail These places will be offered on a strictly first-come, first-served basis.

The trip will be visiting Leeds in West Yorkshire. Leeds offers something for everybody with a wide range of traditional pubs as well as a plethora of modern craft beer bars. The first port-of-call will be the brewery bar in the North Brewing Company, on the outskirts of Leeds.

The coach for this trip will be a 55-seater without a toilet onboard. Convenience stops will be made at motorway service stations on the return journey.

The cost of the trip for non-volunteers is £12 per person. Festival volunteers will qualify for a 50% or 100% reduction dependent upon the number of hours worked at the festival. The ‘hours worked dependency’ will be jointly determined by the Festival Staffing Officer and Branch Treasurer and volunteers will be notified in due course.

OSWESTRY, Saturday 2nd June 2018

The destination for the 2nd trip of the year is Oswestry in Shropshire. Although a small market town, Oswestry has lots to offer real ale fans. There is no shortage of real ale pubs but, perhaps the jewel in the crown, is the Bailey Head which is currently the Shrewsbury and West Shropshire CAMRA Pub of the Year 2018 and a finalist in SIBA’s UK’s Best Independent Craft Beer Bar or Pub (Rural). Time permitting, we’ll also be calling at a brewery (or brewery tap) on the outward journey.

The coach for this trip will have a toilet onboard. The cost of the trip is expected to be £13 per person.

HARROGATE & KNARESBROUGH, Saturday 21st July 2018

The 3rd trip of the year is back across the Pennines to North Yorkshire. There will be an opportunity to visit both Harrogate and Knaresborough with a further opportunity to attend the annual ‘open day’ at Roosters brewery. Both Harrogate and Knaresborough are quaint towns with quaint pubs serving quality real ales.

The coach for this trip will have a toilet onboard. The cost of the trip is expected to be £13 per person.
