Pub regularly in The Good Beer Guide. An 18th century pub with cheerful staff and eight handpumps with local ales showcased; Southport Carousel is always available, and a variety of guest ales include All Gates, Prospect and Moorhouse’s. This busy classic country pub is the Lancashire Dining Pub of the year for the fifth time, so book early for a table. The beer garden, with its wildlife area and great views, hosts a beer festival on the May bank holiday. Quiz night is every Monday.

FARMERS ARMS : Chorley Road, Bispham, L40 3SL. (01257)464640.
Low-ceilinged, open-plan pub with a real fire, wooden settles and a bar covered with striking carvings of farmyard animals. Function room; children’s area; beer garden. There is a mounting block outside for horses. Food served.

MILLER AND CARTER : Parbold Hill, Parbold, WN8 7TG. (01257)462318.
Previously known as The Wiggin Tree, looking out toward stunning Lancashire countryside from the top of Parbold hill, this pub is very into good food and has an extensive menu. Food is served from Midday. Note: This is a restaurant, which means that you will not be able to buy only drinks, and you may be required to buy a meal.

PRINCE WILLIAM : Beacon Lane, Dalton, WN8 7RU. (01695)623989.
The prince in question is the future King William IV. This is a very attractive, well-appointed pub, with a wide menu of superb food and good beer. It has a comfortable airy feel to it. Real fires and no TVs or loud music make this a haven where you can actually chat with your friends. Nearby are great views and nice country walks. It is an ideal pit-stop for the family. Note – it has a fully equipped disabled persons WC, with baby changing facilities. It has a massive covered and heated outdoor patio and very child (and dog) friendly garden.

Jane and Adam run a traditional village pub with all you expect from it for the ‘locals’, and more. It has a large car park with facilities for camper vans, a beer garden and a roaring fire in the winter and a giant Jenga game to play with. Cask Marque accredited ales, fresh ground coffee and quality bar snacks served 12-3pm; Tues-Sun. Importantly they have a fully fitted Disabled WC and baby changing facilities. The ideal pub for visitors walking and cycling in the area. Central drinking area around the bar and two separate rooms on each side. The pub has a back area for games and a large-screen TV, while another area down the side of the bar has comfy seats and sofas. Tastefully fully refurbished, inside and out, in early 2011.

The Red Lion Hotel is a 16th Century Coaching Inn and is a Grade II listed building, refurbished in Spring 2012 to a high standard. It has very spacious car parking and a huge garden. There are four areas which give an intimate feel to the pub, which has a traditional feel with its beams and warm decor, but with modern furniture and fittings. It offers a wide menu of fine foods served by a friendly staff. Function room that can hold up to 40 people. If you are looking to stay the pub has 13 en-suite rooms. Free wi-fi access.

The pub attracts canal enthusiasts, walkers and cyclists as well as locals. Good-value food is served lunchtimes Monday to Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday. Three beers mainly local are available. The pub has two small car parks. There is a disabled WC with baby changing facility.
NOTE +> The pub is under new management and is being refurbished (Jan – Mar 17).

WAYFARER INN : 1-3 Alder Lane, Parbold, WN8 7NL. (01257)464600.
At least two of the Problem Child beers; brewed on the premises, on the 6 hand pumps and a range of locally brewed beers and a real cider. The ‘Il Viandante’ italian bistro was built onto the Wayfarer. There are now three menus to choose from the bar food, restaurant and italian. It has low beam ceilings with cosy little nooks and crannies. It is popular stop in the summer being close to the Leeds Liverpool canal and Parbold Hill with its panoramic views.

WINDMILL HOTEL : 3 Mill Lane, Parbold, WN8 7NW. (01257)462935.
Located close to the village centre next to an old windmill and adjacent to Leeds Liverpool canal. Access is via a set of stone steps. The main part of the building dates back to 1794 when it was used as a grain store. The interior is mock Tudor and multi-roomed with brass ornaments to be found everywhere. A warm welcome is given to drinkers, diners, bargees & walkers. Separate snug to the right of the doorway which features delightful carved animals in the wooden panels. NOTE- This pub has no disabled access / WC.
