This is a traditional local pub offering a range of sizzling dishes and a selection of classic pub favourites. The interior is modern and bright. Food served all day. General Knowledge & Music Quiz on Wednesday, 8.30pm start. Next to the pub is a hotel offering good standard accommodation.

Large, Victorian Community pub on A58 600 yards north of Town centre with open-plan lounge recently refurbished, games room with large screen T.V., and upstairs function room. Pool and Football teams are based at the pub, popular Quiz nights on Thursday, Open mike on Tuesdays, Artists in lounge most Saturday evenings. Prints of old Ashton are of interest. Holds occasional mini beer festivals. There are two guest beers available. CAMRA Wigan branch Pub of the Season Autumn 2017.

HARROW INN : Edge Green Lane, Ashton-in-Makerfield, WN4 8YE. (01942)727849.
The Harrow Inn (aka Th’Arra) takes some finding, situated in the fields on the country road that is Edge Green Lane/Riding Lane. It would not always have been so quiet, as it is situated next to the former sites of both Mains and Edge Lane collieries. The Mains site is now managed by the Forestry Commission as Viridor Woods, linking the Leeds-Liverpool canal to the Three Sisters Recreation Area. A welcoming open coal fire greets walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, etc during the colder months. The Harrow offers a more relaxed alternative for racegoers heading to/from nearby Haydock Park. Good value meals available including early-bird specials. Various local organisations meet here and parties can be catered for. Quiz night is Friday starting 21.30.

HINGEMAKERS ARMS: 34 Heath Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield, WN4 9DY. (01942)729317.
Old pub just off the main road routes into Ashton. The Hingemakers Arms is the only one in the world known to carry that name. It was run by the Corless family for decades until Walter Corless’ retirement in 2006. The Hinge, as it is known by its clientele, is now operated by a local consortium called Hingemakers 08.

NEW COMMERCIAL INN : 21 Heath Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield, WN4 9DY. (01942)735002.
Formerly Commercial Inn. Typical busy town centre back street open plan pub with two large TV screens and drop-down projector TV system. Reasonably priced food is available, but the kitchen is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Four handpumps. Thwaites Wainwrights is to be a standard offering. The other three beers vary.

Extrended in August 2011 this pub now features a ‘wine bar’ style bare floor. Several TV screens abound the pub and loud music can get in the way of conversation. Two handpumps can be in use with various beers.

An attractive and very busy open plan pub in the centre of Ashton. Pleasant modern fittings with wooden panelling make for a nice place to meet friends, and eat good food. Watch all the big games here on 2 large HD, & 3 smaller TV screens, showing mainly Sky sports. The pub has a huge outdoor seated area, a haven in a busy town centre. They have a Quiz night on a Wednesday, and a Karaoke on Sundays.

ST OSWALDS CATHOLIC SOCIAL CLUB : 6 Liverpool Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield, WN4 9LH. (01942)727422.
A very modest entrance at the junction of Liverpool Road / Warrington Road opens up into a surprisingly large social club. There is a games room with snooker table and dart board and a well-appointed lounge/function room available for hire. Membership is not required.

Pub in The Good Beer Guide many times. CAMRA award-winning Wetherspoon pub close to Haydock Park racecourse. There are 12 handpumps with local ales often from Coach House and Phoenix among others. There is a beer garden for the hot summer months and during the winter the pub has a warm cosy atmosphere.
