[extract from minutes of Wigan CAMRA Branch meeting on 16th March 2020]
I was delighted to present the club of the year award on Friday 28 February 2020 at Standish Unity Club. The event was well attended and was pleased to see a high proportion of Wigan CAMRA members present. A group photograph of the presentation will feature on the front cover of the April addition of Swiggin in Wiggin.
As mentioned in last month’s report – a charity quiz night with a raffle and charity auction was held at the Swinley Club, Wigan Lane on 28th February. This is in support of member Graeme Hodgson who will be running the London marathon to raise money for the Lymphoma Action charity. Graeme has taken this initiative to celebrate his wife being clear of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for 10 years and to raise awareness of this great charity. On the night over 80 people attended and £710.00 was raised for this very worthy cause. Should anyone wish to support this local lad in running the London Marathon, donations can be made on his Virgin
Money Giving link: uk.virginmoneygiving.com. On a different note I discovered that the Swinley Club have stopped selling real ale.
I mentioned in my December report that Ken Morley would be taking over the running of St James Club in Orrell. Ken was committed to introducing a greater variety of local real ales to the club. He started his new role on the 7th Jan but departed shortly after. The reason for this was he was restricted by the club to Marston’s/Heineken beers.
